Combine warm water, yeast, and 1/4 tsp sugar and stir- Rest for 5 minutes.
In the large mixing bowl, add yeast mixture, 1/4 cup sugar, egg, salt, butter, and warmed milk. Blend until well combined.
Slowly add the flour and knead until the dough is smooth and soft.
Place the dough back in the bowl, cover with plastic wrap, and allow to rise. Estimate one hour.
Gently punch the dough down and remove it from the bowl. Grab a ball of dough, about the size of a golf ball, and roll it out into a long rope. Tie the robe into the knot.
Place all garlic knots onto the prepared baking tray with parchment paper.
Cover garlic knots loosely with plastic wrap and allows to rise again in the 15 minutes.
Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F. Place in the oven and bake for 12 to 15 minutes.
While baking, combine all garlic topping ingredients into the small bowl.
After removing the knots off the oven, slightly brush them with the prepared garlic sauce.
